"Net Neutrality" Sounds Good, but Take a Look at the Bill

There's legislation going through the House and the Senate in America that could affect which Internet Service Providers Americans are allowed to use, and possibly what information we see.

The "Internet Freedom Preservation Act of 2008" is being very effectively marketed as an effort by Congress to save us from 'Big Phone' and protect the Little Guy.

I think it's quite likely that the authors and proponents of these bills mean well.

However, I have no great desire for Washington to protect me from having to make my own choices. Which seems to be what this pair of bills boils down to.

I wrote quite a bit more about this, in "Net Neutrality, Google, Washington, DC, and Choice " Apathetic Lemming of the North (July 5, 2008).
