If I under...Anirudh Bhati, thanks for your comment. <BR/><BR/>If I understand your point correctly, the Marine was killed because the assailants were poor. <BR/><BR/>And "everybody knows" that poverty causes crime. <BR/><BR/>Oddly, there wasn't a crime wave during the Depression years - but maybe all those people looking for work were really rich. <BR/><BR/>I realize that the "victim of society" may be a dated gag. Back around the fifties, and slopping over into later decades, people who hurt other people were called "victims of society" by the (self-described) best and brightest. The idea was that they sliced and diced their fellow-man because society didn't treat them right. <BR/><BR/>There's an element of truth in the idea, although the element of personal responsibility is missing. <BR/><BR/>The phrase "victim of society" seems to have passed out of general use, but the idea that people aren't responsible for their own actions is still around.Brian H.
